The COVID-19 pandemic has transformed how millions of people work and communicate. A majority of knowledge workers now work remotely and at a distance from their colleagues. 40% or more of these workers will not return to a shared physical location when we recover from the pandemic. With this current reality and forecast, how will we connect and work better together across teams, business units, companies and sectors?
Here’s another challenge that affects us all. People around the world have seemingly become more divided around such issues of race, politics, economic policy, religious beliefs, and culture. How do we interact and work with those who think, act, or vote differently than ourselves? Without the requisite skills, we lose our ability and motivation to communicate and collaborate around issues of common concern.
Interaction Associates and Vantage Partners -- pioneers in facilitated collaboration, stakeholder alignment, and workforce productivity – would like to share some of their best practices for working better together across distances and differences. At this event, you’ll receive practical ideas, skills, and tools for helping people work together and activate possibilities – regardless of the conversational topic or relationship at hand.
Who Should Attend?
Business, team and operational leaders; HR executives and HR business partners; internal L&D professionals responsible for employee and leader development.

Situation and Challenge
A key Influence challenge is determining who your Influence target(s) is and how to gain access to them. The Stakeholder and Influence Mapping Tool clarifies the quantity and nature of connections between relevant parties in your network. The Stakeholder and Influence Map analysis then helps define the desired sequence of conversations – who should you talk to first? And about what?
Session Purpose
Learn techniques to gain a “big picture perspective” on the stakeholder “terrain” by 1) determining who the parties are that might affect an important decision or course of action, 2) knowing the reasons why the parties’ might support or oppose your request, 3) gaining clarity about the power they have to approve or block implementation, and finally, 4) understanding the nature of the relationship between the different parties.

Situation and Challenge
Millions of meetings are held online every day – between teammates, account managers and clients, business partners, vendors, and customers. Virtual meeting technology is getting better and better. But most people still experience online meetings as difficult exercises and often a waste of time. Is there a monster lurking in the room? Various industry surveys indicate that up to 50% of meetings are considered less than successful. How much would you like to improve your virtual meetings?
Session Purpose
Learn techniques for planning the online meeting, keeping people on track, building agreements, and completing them with clear and practical action plans.

Situation and Challenge
When someone says no to us, we often resort to telling them all the reasons they are wrong. Pushing someone to agree with us can leave them feeling unheard, disrespected, and pressured. A better approach to influence is to first understand why our counterpart saying no to us makes sense to them. What are their underlying wants, needs, concerns, and fears - why they are really saying no? You can’t change someone’s mind until you know what they are really thinking, by putting yourself in their shoes.
Session Purpose
In order to influence someone, you must first understand their perspective, and be open to persuasion and change yourself. During the session, the facilitator will share the Currently Perceived Choice (CPC) tool as an easy-to-use approach to quickly understand why someone is saying no to you. Once you have a better understanding of their perspective, you can more easily move to shared understanding, and find a way forward.

Situation and Challenge
Distributed team members often express frustration in getting connected and experiencing a sense of team affinity. Trust and rapport are the bonding elements that help virtual teams build momentum to perform on a consistent basis. They form the foundation of collaborative effectiveness in a digital work environment.

Situation and Challenge
According to Robert Sapolsky, neuroendocrinology researcher, we are built and programmed to experience and identify people with whom we have differences as The Other. The Other means other than me or us. In a phrase we often hear at work and in the community, we’re referring to The Other Side.
In the wake of the 2020 U.S. Elections and the Capitol Hill riot, we are feeling alarmed, frightened and otherwise very upset. These events, along with others of 2020 (e.g., Black Lives Matter support demonstrations) have triggered personal questions and dilemmas about how we engage with people, whether we agree or disagree.
How do we understand, talk, and interact with The Other Side?

Situation and Challenge
We are creatures of habit. When faced with a challenge at work, we ask similar kinds of questions, for example: How do we get people to do their jobs? Where will we find the time to finish this project?
These sound like reasonable questions. But more likely, these questions are traps that prevent us from seeing the big picture, limit creative problem-solving, and lead us to poor decisions.
Session Purpose
Participants learn how to spot limiting and biased questions (mental quicksand) and to fashion powerful questions and problem statements using a practical tool: The Unstuck Minds Compass.
