As IA’s Board Advisor and Emeritus Chairman, Timothy oversees the legal and fiduciary performance of the Board and helps IA management develop yearly strategic plans, translate strategy to financial targets and operational plans, and build consensus on the Board for major changes and investment decisions. Timothy provides guidance to IA management in their application of Balanced Score Card practices.

In his daily business role, Mr. Swords is formerly a Director with MUFG Union Bank, serving in the Committee Governance & Administration function. Timothy was a senior staff member on a variety of governance committees and was tasked with establishing best-practice procedures for effective governance across all the bank’s Risk Management committees for the Americas.

Timothy helped create Union Bank’s Mindfulness Program and leads the San Francisco headquarters mindfulness practice group.

Prior to joining Union Bank, Timothy led his own management consulting practice. Examples of his client-work include creating growth strategies, leading business transformations, guiding merger-integration execution, and developing business cases for major investments.

In his career, Mr. Swords has played senior roles at Fidelity Investments, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, and CSC Index.

Timothy is a Board member of the Alzheimer’s Association of Northern California and also served on the Board for the HBS Alumni Association of Boston, Community Partners.

Mr. Swords earned a Bachelors degree from Boston College, and a Master’s degree in general management from the Harvard Business School. He received his Graduate Certificate in Executive Coaching from William James College, and his Governance Fellowship certification from the National Association of Corporate Directors.
