People with a problem usually have the solution to that problem, and a coach's role is to help them find it. This requires that the coach avoid the usual tack of providing potential solutions.

Instead, the coach facilitates the employee's thinking for them to develop a deeper understanding of the situation and identify previously hidden courses of action. In the course of this work, employees being coached gain new insights and discover a better solution. What's more, they often learn something significant about the way they think about the work, their colleagues, and themselves.
